Making Inkle Braids

In keeping with spinning, the techniques of braid and ribbon weaving have been in use throughout the ages and are used widely throughout the world today.

Braids are used for belts and braces or for luggage and other straps. By sewing braids together one can make bags for many uses.

In the two-day workshop you will make a different braid each day.

  On the first day you will learn to:

  • Thread the loom
  • Weave a short braid
  • Make it into a small bag

On the second day you will make a longer braid for a belt or a luggage strap.

  • Design the pattern of the braid you will weave
  • Thread the loom
  • Weave your braid
  • Attach clips

The four day workshop will take you further!

  • Everything in the two day workshop
  • Introduction to pick-up patterns
  • Different drafts and different materials
  • Making a project of your own

Inkle workshops are also run on demand

If you have your own inkle loom you may use it at the workshop. Otherwise all the equipment will be provided for your use and may be bought at the end of the workshop,
